Running a fair raffle draw
- Put one line per ticket sold. If Sam bought three tickets, Sam appears three times.
- Decide beforehand whether one person can win more than once, and tick "One prize per person" to match.
- Set the number of prizes and draw. The first name is first prize, and so on.
- Project the screen or share it so everyone sees the draw happen. Export the history as a CSV if you need a record.
Many places regulate raffles, lotteries and prize draws that people pay to enter, so check local rules before selling tickets. RollPick is a picking tool, not a gambling service.
Why a proper shuffle matters
A common shortcut, sorting a list by a random number, or swapping each item with any random position, produces some orderings more often than others. The Fisher–Yates method, described by Ronald Fisher and Frank Yates in 1938 and popularised for computers by Donald Knuth, swaps each item only with one at or before it, which makes all orderings equally likely. That is what runs here.

Questions people ask
How does the list randomizer shuffle?
It uses the Fisher–Yates shuffle driven by your browser's cryptographic random generator, which gives every possible ordering exactly the same chance. Simpler tricks, like sorting by a random number, are subtly biased.
How do I pick a raffle winner?
Paste one name or ticket number per line, choose "Draw winners", set how many, and press Draw. Winners are drawn without replacement, so nobody can win twice, and they are listed in draw order (1st prize first).
What if someone bought several raffle tickets?
Put their name on the list once per ticket. The draw treats each line as one ticket, and "one prize per person" skips repeat names so each person wins at most once.
Can I split a class into random groups?
Yes. Choose "Make groups", set the number of groups (or people per group), and press Go. Groups differ in size by at most one.
Is my list stored anywhere?
Only in this browser, so it is still there next time. Nothing is uploaded. Use "Clear list" to remove it.
