Reading percentile dice
| Tens die | Units die | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 00 | 7 | 7 |
| 40 | 2 | 42 |
| 90 | 0 | 90 |
| 00 | 0 | 100 |
Because the two dice are independent and each of the 10 × 10 = 100 combinations maps to exactly one number, every result has a 1% chance. That's why percentile systems can say "roll under your skill": a 65% skill succeeds on 65 of the 100 results.
For a quick d100 inside a larger expression (say, d100+10 on a loot table), type d%+10 into the dice roller.
Questions people ask
How do percentile dice work?
You roll two d10s. One (often marked 00, 10, 20…) gives the tens and the other gives the units. 00 + 7 reads as 7, 30 + 0 reads as 30, and 00 + 0 reads as 100. Every result from 1 to 100 is equally likely.
Is 00 and 0 a 100 or a zero?
In D&D and almost every d100 system it is 100. A few games (some Call of Cthulhu tables) treat the range as 0–99 or 1–100 differently; this roller uses 1–100.
What is a d100 used for?
Random tables (wild magic surges, loot, encounters), percentile skill systems like Call of Cthulhu and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and any "X% chance" ruling.
Is d% the same as d100?
Yes. d% is a common shorthand, and you can type it into the main dice roller.
